#EndSARS protester stabbed in Abuja dies in hospital
Anthony Onome Unuode, an #EndSARS protester, has died following an attack by suspected hoodlums at the weekend, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command has confirmed.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Mariam, Unuode was attacked on Saturday along Kubwa and sustained injuries that led to his death. It was gathered that he was stabbed multiple times and later died in a hospital.
Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, in the statement issued yesterday, ordered a discreet investigation into the incident. He condemned the clashes between #EndSARS and pro-SARS protesters and called for calm.
Anthony was stabbed multiple times by thugs, but gave up the ghost on Sunday after battling for his life. Several videos on social media show him struggling to walk after he was stabbed, while he held his shirt.
His last post on Twitter was a photo of a Nigerian footballer in national colours showing a white T-shirt with the legend, #EndSARS. The post was also with the #EndPoliceBrutality, #EndSARSBrutality, #ReformTheNigerianPolice, #togetherwecan.
As though he knew the end was near, his last post on Facebook a few days before his demise read: “To my generation of Nigerians. I love you and you have earned my maximum and most genuine respect. The powers that be are truly against us and doing everything in their power to stop this movement. It will get worse, but please let us never back down. Never back down.”
A statement by the police yesterday read: “The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Bala Ciroma, has called for calm among protesters following a clash between the EndSARS and pro-SARS protesters at the Central Business District in the early hours of Monday.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that no life was lost, however, one vehicle was set ablaze during the clash. In view of this, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident.
