The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) may take legal action against any agency of government that fails to include local content in its procurement process.

The COREN President, Mr. Kashim Ali, stated this yesterday during a press briefing in Abuja on the upcoming 26th Engineering Assembly scheduled to hold at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, from August 7-9, 2017 with the theme “Entrepreneurship and Manufacturing in Nigeria, Challenges and opportunities for a better future.”

He said that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had empowered the Council to sue any government agency, which outsources what can be produced locally.

Ali noted that construction work usually requires huge capital outlay, stressing the need for affirmative action by the government to support local engineers as done in other developed countries.

Besides, the COREN president, who spoke on the dichotomy between B.Sc. and HND holders, said things were not as they seem as there were various people involved in the engineering work starting from the engineers, technologists, technicians and the craftmen.

He said that all of them were part of the engineering family and they have mutual respect for everyone regardless of the qualification.
