Enrolment of potential beneficiaries of the financial palliative approved by President Bola Tinubu to cushion the impact of fuel subsidy removal on selected 15 million households across the country has been temporarily suspended in Abia State.
The enrollment was flagged off on Saturday, in Umuahia, the state capital, during which many veterans, widows and orphans of fallen heroes, among others, gathered for capturing and registration at the Aguiyi Ironsi Conference Centre.
The enrolment was to be carried out throughout the 17 councils of the state by the registration teams.
Chairman of the Abia State Nigerian Legion Chapter, Navy Commander Ambrose Nnabugwu (rtd), who confirmed the temporary suspension of the enrollment to The Guardian, yesterday, attributed it to “technical hitches,” expressing optimism that it would be rectified within a few days.
He said that the enrollment team is to undertake house-to-house visits to capture the identified potential beneficiaries in accordance with the set qualification criteria.
It was gathered that the enrolled/captured beneficiaries are to get N25,000 each per month for three months.
The Ministry of Defence Steering Committee on Social Safety Net is handling the exercise in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs And Poverty Alleviation, in partnership with Abia State Government.
