The Enugu State government, yesterday, assured residents of its commitment to provide security and attendant serene ambience during the yuletide and beyond.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Steve Oruruo, also called on the people of the state as well as road users to appreciate the tremendous sacrifice and concerted efforts of the security agencies towards curbing the menace of heightening insecurity within the Southeast geopolitical zone.

He tasked the people to recall with deep revulsion, the terrible phase of criminality and wave of inexplicable killings visited on unsuspecting but innocent citizens only a few months ago.

Oruruo said that as much as the government empathises with the populace over the excruciating pains, predictable delays and the overall sufferings occasioned by the increased number of security checkpoints.

“We must admit that the aforesaid strategy has further buttressed the revered status of our dear state as the safest state in the Southeast region and without equivocation, easily the impregnable fortress of Ndigbo,” he said.

He added that the state government had directed the 1700 Brigade Personnel of the Forest Guards and the entire Neighborhood Watch Associations within the state to continue to collaborate with the security agencies with a view to providing adequate security in all communities during the festive period.

“The State Government is proactively devoted to securing the lives and properties of Ndi Enugu and all law abiding citizens within the territorial landscape of the State,” he said.

“We are all therefore, encouraged to remain vigilant and report every suspicious and untoward activity or behavior to the security agencies, as security is our collective responsibility,” he added.

In another development, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has charged Christians to emulate the pattern of life of Jesus Christ by exhibiting love, unity, harmony and peaceful co-existence in their daily living.

He described the birth of Christ as a blessing to mankind exemplified in his teaching of love, humility, forbearance, compassion and selflessness.

He said, “I felicitate with Nigerians, particularly the Christian faithful, on the joyous occasion of the 2021 Christmas celebration, to commemorate the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

“I urge Nigerians to continue to adhere to all Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPIs) including regular wearing of masks, washing of hands, social distancing and avoidance of unnecessary travels in order to curb the spread of the Omicron variant of Covid-19.”
