The remains of Justice Edward Ojuolape, a former acting Chief Judge of Old Ondo State, were laid to rest on Friday at his home in Ogotun Ekiti, Ekiti State
The funeral service, held at Saint Bartholomew’s Anglican Church in Ogotun Ekiti, saw numerous dignitaries, including government officials, legal practitioners, and clergymen, gather to pay their respects.
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, spoke at the service, describing Justice Ojuolape as an incorruptible judge who held the rule of law in high regard.
“Justice Ojuolape was deeply committed to the rule of law, which he applied fairly to ensure equal justice for the meek as well as the mighty in society,” he said.
The governor also praised the late judge for his unwavering commitment to upholding ethical standards throughout his legal career, which spanned many years.
“His entire legal career as an eminent jurist and a distinguished judge can be characterised as a legacy of openness, confidentiality, and moral standards,” Aiyedatiwa added
He acknowledged Ojuolape’s significant contributions to both the legal profession and the development of Ekiti and Ondo states.
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, also in attendance, described Justice Ojuolape as a man who had a profound impact on his community.
“The late judge lived for others and left a mark on the sands of time,” Oyebanji stated, urging the judiciary to continue the legacy of fairness that Ojuolape upheld throughout his career.
In his sermon, Emeritus Bishop Michael Ipinmoye highlighted Ojuolape’s devout nature and his positive influence on many people’s lives.
“He was a God-fearing man, who positively touched the lives of many until his last day on earth,” Bishop Ipinmoye said.
The funeral service was attended by a wide array of dignitaries, including top government officials, legal professionals, and religious leaders from both Ondo and Ekiti states, as well as other parts of the country.
