Expert launches financial literacy book for children

A financial expert, Iyabosa Sorae, has launched a book titled “Cracking the Money Code,” aimed at simplifying financial education for children and encouraging a culture of knowing money instinctively and analytically.

The launch, attended by educationists, banking professionals, parents, financial experts, and children, emphasised the need to introduce children to financial literacy at an early age.

Sorae, explaining the reason behind writing the book, said it is to demystify finance and find its way into schools and curricula of different institutions until the transformational impact expected from the book is achieved.

According to her, the book is aimed at “building future financial wizards, one page at a time. It is tailored for children aged six to 11, offering lessons on savings, budgeting, prioritising needs, and basic entrepreneurship.

The Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), TrustBanc, Abubakar Jimoh, emphasising the importance of children having such exposure, said that if he had not been guided in the career path to follow, he would have been in a different profession and unable to contribute in his current capacity to the economy.

The Chairperson, Association of Professional Women Bankers (APWB), Funke Ladimeji, announced the group’s intention to fully support the book under their “Catch Them Young” initiative.

She said that the earlier the young ones are equipped with the right money mindset, the better they are prepared for adulthood.
