Experts urge Africa to maximise agro-allied industry development


The Chief Convener, West Africa Agribusiness Show (WAAS) in Lagos, Mr. Idowu Asenuga, has emphasised the need for West African countries to showcase rich agricultural heritage of their sub-continent and contribute to its Gross Domestics Product (GDP).

He also stressed the need to bring stakeholders together from across West Africa to attract new prospects in agribusiness and make West Africa an investment hub for agricultural and allied sectors.

The ongoing show is set to harmonise a single platform for agro businesses, share ideas, experience the latest in equipment and technical know-how, as well as supplies and services deployed in the production and processing of agriculture-related products for radical development and food sufficiency.

Asenuga said that WAAS, as a yearly exhibition, was intended to provide a platform through which innovations in technology, equipment, procedures, and processes in the agribusiness sector could be developed and ready to hold its maiden edition with the theme, “Accelerating Food Revolution in Africa” from February 18-20, 2020.

“They will be sharing ideas on the best ways of solving Africa’s toughest challenges relating to food sufficiency and growth of agribusiness on the continent.“The new experiences participants will gain in the course of this show will equally lead to a major boost in further creation and improved management of farming concerns in the different areas of agriculture and they would have the opportunity to create and enhance their brand visibility as well as establish business alliance with potentials,” he added.

Mrs. Ope Ladipo, Besides, the Project Lead Manager of the show, Mrs. Ope Ladipo, said that the platform would bring an enabling environment where all sectors in the agricultural space would interact and interface over Africa’s businesses. Asenuga, however, urged the government, and the ministries of agriculture in particular, to collaborate with the platform to disseminate useful information, as huge number of participants from 15 countries would attend the show.
