The convener of the King Eyamba V Royal Family in the Diaspora, a community of descendants of King Eyamba V, the 19th-century Obong of Calabar, Prince Francis Eyamba, has congratulated the former Head of Service of the Federation, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, on her retirement from the Federal Civil Service and her recent discharge and acquittal by the court.

In a statement titled “Congratulations, Our Heroine,” Prince Eyamba described Oyo-Ita’s retirement and court vindication as a moment of great joy, relief, and thanksgiving for the Efik Community, particularly the descendants of King Eyamba V.

“It is with immense joy and gratitude to God that we received the news of the retirement of our sister and mother, Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, from the Federal Civil Service, as well as her discharge and acquittal of all 18-count charges of corruption by the court,” Eyamba stated.

He noted that members of the Efik Community, especially those connected to the King Eyamba V lineage, followed the court proceedings with keen interest and remained prayerful throughout the period.

“We monitored the proceedings with deep concern, faith, and hope, praying that the matter would end in praise and to the glory of God. We are particularly grateful that God answered our prayers and vindicated our sister and mother,” he said.

Eyamba also commended the judiciary for upholding the rule of law, ensuring fairness, and dispensing justice transparently.

“We are grateful to the judiciary for standing on the side of justice, fairness, and due process. This outcome has reinforced our confidence in the rule of law,” he added.

Speaking further, Eyamba said he could personally attest to Oyo-Ita’s character, integrity, discipline, and humility, having known her for more than three decades.
