He noted that sports have the potential to bridge cultural, social, and economic gaps among citizens, and it can be harnessed by the government to promote peaceful co-existence in Nigeria.
Anyaogu stated this in Abuja, during the 2023 final of the President Peace Cup between Royal International Football Academy and Top Rovers FC, which ended with 4-1 on penalties in favour of Top Rovers FC after regulation time ended 1-1.
Top Rovers emerged victorious over Royal International Football Academy in a penalty shootout, at Nigeria’s President Peace Under-20 man football championship, tagged ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.
He further explained that Nigeria’s President Peace Cup is an avenue for promoting peace, unity, and love in the country through sports. The competition, which features teams from different parts of the country, aims at enhancing inter-tribal relationships and peaceful co-existence among the various ethnic groups in Nigeria.

He emphasized the importance of creating enabling environments for such initiatives to thrive, adding that such efforts would go a long way in promoting peace and sustainable development in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the President of the African Youth Sports Federation and Chairman Main Organising Committee of Nigeria’s President Peace Cup, Dr. Ahmed Lawal, noted that the purpose of the tournament is to expose the hidden talent among youths.
He said: “We use tournaments for the peace of the country. And to expose the hidden talent, this competition has been on for the past 24 years. So, not that we are organizing the competition for President Bola Tinubu but for the office presidency. We have been organizing the competition even right from the time of a military government that we have in Nigeria, since during the general Abraham Babangida these competitions have been on.”
The National Organizing Secretary, AYSOF, Eze-Ifeanyi Godwin, said that the aim of taking the youths off the street propelled him to key into Nigeria’s President Peace Cup.
