Eze Igbo Ghana, Ihenetu, Nwandu, others congratulate Ghanaian president-elect, John Mahama, over electoral victory

Following the landslide victory recorded at the poll in the last Saturday’s presidential election in the Republic of Ghana by the leader and candidate of the main opposition party, National Democratic Party (NDC), Dr. John Dramani Mahama, who scored over 57.32 per cent votes count across the 276 constituencies, 16 regions, and among the 12 presidential candidates in the race.

The Ghanaian electoral umpire, Electoral Commission (EC), in lieu of the above, has pronounced John D. Mahama, the winner of the tightly contested presidential election, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes.

Meanwhile, critical Igbo leaders, the business community, and prominent Nigerians living in Ghana have joined other African leaders to congratulate the President – elect, over his electoral victory in the December 7, 2024, presidential election.

Speaking from his Obiukwu, Obigbo, Obieziokwu palace in Ghana, His Royal Majesty, Dr. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu congratulated the newly elected President of Ghana, Dr. John Mahama, for his landmark victory at the poll, describing the election as one of the most peaceful, free, and fair elections conducted in the annals of history.

Commending the presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, for demonstrating rare leadership and sportsmanship by conceding defeat and congratulating the winner, Eze Ihenetu said he has written his name in the sands of time as a democrat, true patriot, and statesman who places the interest of the nation above personal interest and that of his political party.

Recall that the peace- loving Igbo diaspora King in Ghana and avowed bridge builder, had prior to the Saturday’s election lent his strong voice alongside the National Peace Council of Ghana to advocate for a free, fair, and peaceful conduct of the presidential election while urging Igbo people and other Nigerians living in Ghana to remain law abiding and eschew the temptation of being used by any political parties to cause violence as the exercise is purely for Ghanaians who are eligible to vote and not foreigners.

He also saluted the resilience of the leadership of the ruling party, the NPP, and its presidential candidate, Bawumia, while maintaining that the election has been won and lost, and it is victory for democracy.

Speaking in the same vein, HRM Eze Okwudiri Divine Nwandu (Akaraka lll of Ihiteaforukwu) also congratulated Ghanaians for freely expressing their civic rights by voting their choice of candidates into the various elective positions without fear or favour, describing the election as the most peacefully conducted, free and fair elections in the country’s history.

Eze Nwandu, while congratulating the newly elected President, said his victory is not a surprise to keen observers of Ghana’s political leadership and economic trajectory as people truly desired a change of government having experienced a lot of setbacks in the last seven years under the outgoing administration.

Eze Nwandu said the defeat in Saturday’s election, will inadvertently end the eight years in power for the NPP marked by a declining economic performance, high inflation, and a debt default.

He, however, maintained that Ghana is a very peaceful country, peopled with law-abiding citizens, and blessed with both human and natural resources, trusting that the incoming government under John Dramani Mahama will reset and reposition the country once again, just like his American counterpart, Donald J. Trump of America.
