FAAN unveils cargo village to facilitate export

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), yesterday, inaugurated a cargo aviation village in Lagos to foster the facilitation of export outside the country.

Managing Director of FAAN, Kabir Mohammed, who spoke during the groundbreaking ceremony, said the aviation cargo village would be a one-stop-centre aimed at addressing most challenges militating against massive exports in the country.

He said: “You can be assured that in the next few months, cargo aircraft will be departing from our airports fully loaded with goods that meet destination standards and acceptance.”

Coordinator of the Aviation Cargo Roadmap Committee, Ikechi Uko, who expressed excitement that the vision came to fruition, said: “We are at the point where we say we have started.

“The idea is that we now have a place; you need to see what others have done before you start building. What we told FAAN is to first designate the place.

“We would use this as a template for Abuja airport. There is a huge cargo environment in Abuja, and we can do it for Enugu airport and tell them this is how to do it. But if Lagos doesn’t get it right, others won’t.”
