The family of the former Premier of the defunct Western Region, the late Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, at the weekend, immortalised him by unveiling his statue in Ogbomoso as part of activities for the memorial lecture.

Akintola was one of the founding fathers of modern Nigeria in his lifetime and became the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland in recognition of his political contributions to the emancipation of his people.

However, one of the grandsons of the late nationalist, who spoke at the event, noted that his grandfather sacrificed his life for Western Region and Nigeria as a whole, urging the government at all levels not to be selfish but always think about the people.
