Fayemi’s wife launches new initiative for women empowerment
Ekiti governor condoles with Fayose over sister’s death
The wife of Ekiti State Governor, Mrs. Bisi Fayemi, has launched the Women Empowerment Team (WET), designed as a capacity building and empowerment programme for women across the 177 wards in the state.
The scheme will operate through cluster and co-operative groups to be established across the state. The governor’s wife, who spoke at the launch, said the initiative was proposed to be a “women-helping-women approach through a network of co-operative societies designed to foster peer-learning, knowledge sharing, skills’ acquisition and socio-economic and risk mitigation interventions for vulnerable women in the state.
Mrs. Fayemi said that Obinrinkete Cooperative would make all Ekiti women prosperous, empowered, productive and gainfully engaged. She also said that the WET would be a platform for monitoring initiatives that empower, inform and build the capacity of Ekiti women in general and more importantly women living in poverty.
MEANWHILE, Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has commiserated with the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on the death of his elder sister, Mrs. Mojisola Ladeji.
Fayemi, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, said he received the news of Mrs. Ladeji’s death with shock as he was aware that the deceased was hale and hearty before the news of the untimely death was broken.
The governor, who described the deceased as a sister having shared the bond of attending the same secondary school, Christ’s School Ado-Ekiti, added that the passing of Mrs. Ladeji was a loss, not only to the former governor, but also to him and the Christ’s School family.
While noting that the loss of a beloved sister could be devastating, Fayemi urged Fayose to take solace in the fact that the deceased lived an impactful life.
He prayed God to grant the family of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, saying: “On behalf of my self, the government and good people of Ekiti State, I commiserate with my brother, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, on the death of his sister.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with you and the entire family in this trying period. We pray that God will grant you and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”
