FCT Police arrest 245 suspects, seize drugs, weapons in major operation

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 245 suspects and confiscated a range of dangerous weapons, hard drugs and other crime-related items.
The operation, which took place between February 6 and February 23, 2025, focused on criminal hideouts, black spots, and abandoned buildings across the FCT.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the intelligence-led raids targeted high-risk areas such as Kurudu, Dutse Alhaji, Kubwa, Wuye, Galadimawa, Iddo, Kuje, Apo, Zuba, Asokoro, Karshi, Karu, and Byazhin, among others.
During the course of the operation, the police seized a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be marijuana, along with three axes and three machetes commonly used in violent crimes.
Authorities also discovered six small tubes of glue and five handmade bongs associated with substance abuse. In addition, eight pairs of scissors, five ID cards, and several plastic containers with pills suspected to be illicit substances were recovered.
The arrested suspects are currently undergoing screening and profiling, and those found guilty will face prosecution in accordance with the law.
The FCT Police Command has also ramped up surveillance on abandoned buildings and isolated areas identified as criminal hideouts, as intelligence reports indicate these locations are frequently used for illegal activities, including drug abuse and organized crime.
In response to these findings, security forces have raided and cleared several of these structures, urging property owners to secure their buildings to prevent criminal infiltration.
The police have also appealed to relevant government agencies to take appropriate action to address the issue.
Commissioner of Police CP Olatunji Disu reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all FCT residents.
He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police using the emergency contact numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883, and 07057337653. For complaints, residents can reach the Complaint Response Unit at 08107314192.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime and maintaining law and order, emphasizing that decisive actions will continue to be taken against criminal activities.
