Unknown gunmen have kidnapped five Igbo traders in Calabar within a period of three weeks. The kidnappers have lately been targeting businessmen mostly from the Igbo extraction.

It was gathered that one Ifeanyi and Lazarus, who are spare parts dealers, were kidnapped two weeks ago, while an electrical parts dealer and contractor popularly known as ‘But Why’ was also picked up in his shop on Monday. It would be recall that kidnapping cases in the state have increased as most professional bodies are also targeted.

Investigation revealed that the said victims were picked up in their shops at Bedwell, a popular spare parts market in Calabar South, while doing their daily businesses.

One of the victims, who were recently released after the family must have paid a ransom, said the kidnappers have a list. On hearing this, Ndi Igbo in the state have been living in fear, especially with the kidnap of popular Japanese spare parts dealer Mr Paulinus Obi, known as Matata and a contractor, Mr Emmanuel Ozokwu.
