The Federal Government yesterday launched an upgraded website aimed at bringing governance close to the people. The Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, who declared the website open, stated that the upgraded website, which cost about N64 million, will enable citizens participate in governance, particularly through e-Participation component.

“A major achievement in this project is the revamped e-participation platform for citizen participation and engagement in governance which has been integrated with the website.“This is to drive the Open Government Partnership (OGP) initiative. The SGF added that the project  involved other Ministries Departments and Agencies as the responding agencies while the Office of the SGF will be the coordinating unit.He said: “Some of the very rich resources available on the website include circulars, FEC approved 0olicies since 2015 till March, international organizations to which Nigeria belongs, agreements, Memorandum of Understanding as well as treaties between Nigeria and other countries.

Mustapha disclosed that it became necessary to upgrade the old OSGF website as it did not reflect the status of the OSGF and was developed with old technology.   “It also had limited security features which made the website prone to hackers.”   “The old website had media files such as video clips hosted on external server, which is contrary to government’s policies; The website did not comply with the standard of operation of Executive Order 00.”   Part of the package also include training of staff for installation of computer hardwares.
