President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Morenike Grace Henry (JP) as Chairman of the National Council of the Nigerian Legion, making her the first woman in the nation’s history to lead the veteran organisation.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday by Henry David, ASCI, Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation.
The new chairman, a military veteran and pioneer of the Female Military Veteran Association (FMVA), currently serves as the Director of Corporate Affairs at the National Headquarters of the Nigerian Legion. Her appointment reflects the Tinubu administration’s continued support for gender inclusion and women’s affirmative action in public service.
Beginning her career in the Nigerian Army as a dental nurse, Henry has undergone extensive military training and has since become known for her humanitarian work, especially in support of women, children, and vulnerable veterans. She is also the Chief Executive Officer of Hengramore Care Home, a voluntary organisation.
In addition to her domestic engagements, Henry has facilitated partnerships between the Nigerian Legion and international veteran organisations in the UK, US, and Canada.
As Chairman, she is expected to work with the Ministry of Defence to enhance the welfare of ex-servicemen, support families of fallen soldiers, and promote training, employment, and reintegration programmes for veterans.
