The Federal Government has identified community-based Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) plan, as a panacea to pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta.

The Director General of National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Mr. Peter Idabor, said this during a one-day seminar on community-based DRR on the dangers of pipeline vandalism, held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

Represented by the Director of Finance/Account, Mr. Simon Ugbe, he explained that from the pilot scheme on community-based DRR between 2014 and 2015, huge success was recorded in Rivers and Bayelsa States.

He said the agency is prepared to expand the scope of DRR, by promoting collaboration with local communities in the region.
