The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s migration framework to enhance national security, service delivery, and investment facilitation.
Speaking during a visit by the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Mohammed Bello Shehu, Tunji-Ojo said enhancing national security is of paramount importance.
The minister highlighted key reforms including the introduction of an electronic visa system and a digital platform for managing expatriate permits, aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and compliance.
Tunji-Ojo also emphasised inter-agency collaboration and adherence to constitutional provisions on citizenship.
RMAFC Chairman, Shehu, commended the role of the Ministry of Interior in boosting revenue and sought deeper collaboration on investment monitoring and citizenship-by-investment initiatives.
Also on Thursday, Tunji-Ojo received a delegation of retired Controllers/Commandants/Comptrollers General (CGs) and Deputy CGs across all services under the Ministry of Interior, led by Mr. Chukwurah Joseph Udeh, a retired Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
The minister said their visit followed the approval of lifetime salary for the nation’s retired paramilitary officers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He spoke about the key achievements of the Ministry of Interior under his leadership since 2023.
“We have reinstated timely and predictable career progression through regular promotions, enhanced salaries for paramilitary officers, modernized infrastructure, and fully restored a culture of professionalism,” Tunji-Ojo said.
“Not only do we owe our retired officers respect, this government believes also that those who defend Nigeria must be defended by Nigeria in return.”
