FG, Lagos flag off Third Mainland Bridge repairs

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has urged Lagos residents to be prepared for the inconvenience caused by the repairs of the state’s busiest artery, the Third Mainland Bridge.
The repair, which has seen the shutdown of a part of the bridge, inwards Island, is estimated to last a duration of five weeks.
At the flag off of the emergency repairs of the bad portion, he applauded the Federal Minister of Works for the commitment to Nigerian road users.
“Works have already started on the four ramps to the bridge on November 6, 2023, and will be completed on December 13, 2023,” he said.
Explaining the project, he said that overtime, they had just been laying asphalt on asphalt, now they are taking it off and putting the optimal materials on the super structure, making it more efficient.
Federal Controller of Works, Lagos State, Olukorede Keisha, explained that the government quickly responded to public outcry concerning the state of the bridge by asking them to do palliative works pending when the comprehensive repairs would be put together and repaired.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, said the work was awarded for over N21 billion to CCECC Nig Ltd.
He also added that works on the major carriageway of the bridge will commence January 15, 2023.
The Minister further enjoined road users to stick to this traffic plan to allow for smooth movement during the period of repairs.
