FG orders implementation of standard operating procedures manual by MDAs
The Federal Government has directed four ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) to begin implementation of the first-ever Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual to boost efficiency, capacity and competence of civil servants in the country.
The affected MDAs include the Federal Civil Service Commission, Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, State House and the Federal Ministry of Transportation.
Head of Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, gave the order yesterday after she formally received the document from Chairman of Africa Initiative for Governance (AIG), Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede in Abuja.
She said the main objective of the SOPs was to develop an effective system that complies with industry-specific regulations and standards for significant reduction or avoidance of operational errors and unwanted work variations.
Yemi-Esan noted: “In our era of technological advancement and digitalisation, the civil service cannot afford to lag behind or operate in isolation. We certainly cannot continue to do things in the old order and expect new results.”
In his remarks, Aig-Imokhuoede said the processes leading to the development of the 26 SOP manuals were rigorous.
