FG pays ₦4.25b to 600 more Nigeria Airways retirees

The Federal Government has disbursed ₦4.25 billion in outstanding pension and severance benefits to 600 more beneficiaries of the defunct Nigeria Airways Limited, bringing the total to 3,300 recipients.

A statement by the head of Media, Federal Ministry of Finance, Efe Ovuakporie, said the latest payment of ₦4,251,043,000.19 covers batches 010 and 011, extending the settlement of longstanding entitlements owed to former workers of the national carrier.

With the latest disbursement, the government has paid 3,300 beneficiaries in 11 batches, following payments to 2,700 recipients in the first nine batches.

The payments are intended to provide financial relief to former workers and other eligible beneficiaries who have awaited the settlement of their entitlements since the airline ceased operations.

Meanwhile, the Federal Ministry of Finance said it was conducting a verification and validation exercise for the next of kin of deceased former Nigeria Airways workers.

The exercise aims to establish claimants’ eligibility and verify their submissions against approved records before paying outstanding benefits.
