The Federal Government yesterday directed Julius Berger, the contractor handling the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, to ensure timely completion of the Berger-Kara Section of the road by December 15, 2019.

It also urged the firm to ensure smooth traffic flow during the Yuletide season.

Director of Highways in the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, South-West, Funsho Adebiyi, disclosed this during an inspection on works on the road.

Adebiyi, who led the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr. Adedamola Kuti; Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Lagos Sector Commander, Mr. Hyginus Omeje; the Sector Commander of Ogun Command of the FRSC, Mr. Clement Oladele and other officials on the visit, however, said the road would be opened to traffic during the construction.

He stressed that palliative repair works had already been carried out on the available lanes for traffic on both carriageways.

He also said that the government had implored traffic management agencies to ensure a free flow of traffic.

Also, Omeje said that arrangements had been made for towing trucks for the immediate evacuation of broken-down vehicles within the diversion area to avoid traffic.

Oladele urged commuters to keep to speed limits as indicated within the diversion and construction zones to prevent avoidable road crashes and the attendant loss of lives and property.

According to him, parking, stopping or repairing broken down vehicles within the diversion and construction zones would not be tolerated.
