Kano State Fire Service, yesterday, said 14 classes were destroyed when fire gutted Tsangaya Model Boarding Primary School, located at Kiyawa Village, Bagwai Local Council of the state.
Spokesperson for Kano State fire service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the fire broke out on Sunday afternoon and completely destroyed 14 classes, twelve offices and 21 toilets in the school.
According to the report, Tsangaya or Almajiri school was among the boarding primary schools constructed by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, as part of efforts to integrate Almajiri schools into conventional schools.
Abdullahi said their Zonal office in Bichi received a distress call from one Alhaji Gaddafi Sani of Bagwai council about the incident.
He said: “Bichi fire station received an emergency call from Alhaji Ghaddafi Sani Bagwai.
“ The fire started from the administrative block in the main building, after the solar system malfunctioned, and spread to the main part of the school.”
“No life was lost as all the students were successfully evacuated by the rescue team of the state fire service.”
