No fewer than five people lost their lives to flood in Jama’are Local Government Area of Bauchi State, the Chairman of the Council, Samaila Yusuf Jarma told The Guardian.

The council boss said that three of the victims were found floating from another part of the state.

According to him, two residents of the area were killed by flood.

This brought the flood death toll to 13, while hundreds of people were injured, according to Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

SEMA officials said five people died in Jama’are, three in Gamawa,  three in Ningi, one in Toro and one in Darazo, while  property worth over N900 million were lost to flood.

They stressed that investigations and information gathering are still on to ascertain the actual figure affected by the disaster considering the fact that some of the affected settlements are hard to reach, while in some areas the bridges that linked to the affected communities or culverts are washed away by the flood.

The State Governor, Bala Mohammed,  who visited affected areas to condole the bereaved,  urged residents in flood prone areas to relocate them to a safe place.
