Foundation challenges El-Rufai to pay tuition fees with salary
As part of efforts to make education affordable to youths in the state, the President of LAUF, Mr. Lawal Usman, offered N30 million as a scholarship to Kaduna students.
The scholarship was coming on the heels of tuition increment by the state government.
El-Rufai’s administration had increased school fees by 300 per cent in virtually all its tertiary institutions.
Usman, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Kaduna Central, noted that over 10,000 students applied for the scholarship.
He said his foundation earmarked N50 million for students in the 2022 session.
“The scholarship will be continuous. We have commenced the payment of their school fees with the scholarship, but are having network issues now. Once the portal is active, we will resume the payment. We will pay the school fees of students from Kaduna State University (KASU), Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic and College of Education, Gidan Waya.”
According to him, it will cost the governor nothing to lead by example, by using his salary to pay school fees of indigent students.
