Four ex-convicts held for allegedly kidnapping 76-year- old man

Four ex-convicts have been arrested in connection with the kidnap of a 76-year old man, Elder Benjamin Okoye.He was rescued in Abia State by Intelligence Response Team (IRT) deployed by Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Kpotun Idris and led by IRT boss, Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Four out of six ex-convicts confessed that they formed a gang from the prison and after being released in October, they recruited others and began to kidnap. Meanwhile, the senior citizen, who is also hypertensive, was kidnapped on Friday. He was kept without his drugs in a-three bedroom house rented and used for hiding their victims, was rescued alive.

The kidnappers attempted to escape and were arrested by the team.It took the combined effort of IRT Operatives and Aba Police personnel to arrest the kidnappers at Okpukwu Umuobo area of Aba town.

The kidnappers arrested were the gang leader, Ugbonabo Danjuma, 43; Chinonye Anoro, 26 and Prince Sylvester, 35 years old, the owner and driver of the operational Golf bus used for eight kidnapping cases in Aba.Others were Kingsley Papa, 45; Moses Clever, 31 and Ogoro James, 26.

The suspects have confessed to several kidnappings within Aba and other parts of Abia State.Dangerous weapons recovered from them were two AK47 rifles used for their operations and six magazines loaded with 180 rounds of live ammunition hidden in special compartment constructed under the operational vehicle of the kidnappers in Abia State.
