Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has vowed to implement recommendations of the report submitted to him by the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the arson, killings, and wanton destruction of property at some local council headquarters on or around Monday, October 7, 2024.
Fubara gave the assurance when the seven-member commission, led by the Chairman, Justice Ibiwengi Roseline Minakiri, submitted four volumes of reports of their investigation and recommendations to him at the Government House in Port Harcourt yesterday.
The governor declared that his administration would neither tolerate nor allow such a level of violence in the state anymore because it is not profitable or productive.
He said: “We are not going to be part of any system that would encourage destruction in this state. And for that reason, we had to inaugurate this commission to look into the remote and immediate causes of this problem.
“With the help of God and the support of everyone, we will make sure to implement the recommendations.
“We are going to take it to the next stage. The report will be presented to the executive council. We will surely come up with the white paper. I can assure you, we will follow it to the end.”
HOWEVER, amid the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara is set to commission and flag off projects from December 6 to December 21, 2024.
Checks by The Guardian showed that at least 11 projects would be commissioned within the stipulated period. Some of the projects include the reconstructed Okehi-Umuola- Eberu link road in Etche and Omuma Local Council, the Government Secondary School in Ahoada East, the rehabilitated Okocha road in Rumuolemeni in Obio-Akpor Council, among others.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, also indicated that two projects would be flagged off during the festive period. They include the Egwi- Afara road reconstruction in Etche Council and the Buguma- Abalama- Tema- Degema, Abonnema Road, in Akuku-Toru and Asari-Toru Local Council of the state.
Speaking recently, Fubara reassured his administration’s commitment to providing quality leadership and development in the state. He said those fighting his administration would not dampen his spirit and the spirit of the Rivers people.
