Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu has emerged as the second first class chief and new emir of Gaya Emirate of Kano state.

Aliyu, the former Ciroma Gaya and eldest son of the immediate pass emir of Gaya, was announced the new successor by Kano State government.

Announcing the new appointment at about 3am Sunday morning at the government house, the Secretary to the State Government Alhaji Usman Alhaji said the government found Aliyu worthy to succeed his late father among the five candidates earlier recommended by the kingmakers.

Gaya Emirate was amongst the four emirates created by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in 2020.

Incidentally, the SSG who announced the new emir is one of the kingmakers in the new emirate along the Madakin Gaya, Alh. Wada Aliyu; Makaman Gaya, Barr. Bashir Albasu AIG retired and the Turakin Gaya, Jafar Usman.

The appointment which was said to have arrived at after hot disagreement, tussles and near physical combat among the influential citizens of Gaya, top echelons in government and the kingmakers, however, took the intervention of Governor Ganduje to resolve.

Late Emir of Gaya Alhaji Abdulkadir who died late last week at the age of 91 was the oldest emir among the serving emirs in Kano.

Abdulkadir, who has been on the throne of Sarkin Gaya since 1990 has held several traditional positions, including district head of Kunchi and that of Minjibir, among others.

He was elevated to first class emir by the Ganduje administration after the creation of Rano, Gaya, Bichi and Karaye Emirates in 2019.
