Ganduje’s deputy, Gawuna, wins APC governorship primary
Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the deputy governor of Kano State, has won the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Kano State.
Gawuna, secured the party’s mandate in the early hours of Friday after he defeated his only opponent, Sha’aban Ibrahim Sharada, a House of Representatives member representing the Kano municipal federal constituency.
Gawuna polled 2, 289 votes leaving Sharada with 30 delegate votes.
Announcing the outcome of the primary, at exactly 4.45 am, the chairman electoral committee and leader of the APC national delegation, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura, certified Gawuna as the winner and declared him returned elected.
Gawuna, alongside immediate past Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Murtala Sule Garo, have already been endorsed by Governor Umaru Ganduje as governorship candidate and running mate respectively.
