After three months of partisanship with the opposition New Democratic Congress (NDC), Abdulaziz Umar Ganduje, has finally returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Abdulaziz, eldest son of former National Chairman of APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, is expected to formally cross over to the ruling party at Dawano, APC headquarters in Dawakin-Tofa local government area today.
The junior Ganduje was officially received at his Ganduje ward, on Sunday where he registered and obtained the party’s membership card after dumping the leader of Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Officials of the party told The Guardian that Abdulaziz has reaffirmed his loyalty to the ruling party and will be welcome back to his original home where he had helped to build.
Abdulaziz may have returned to APC after losing the chance of securing the Dawakin Tofa/Tofa/Rimin Gado Federal Constituency ticket under Kwankwasiyya NDC.
The Guardian learnt Kwankwaso had endorsed Muktar Mustapha Balarabe for the House of Representatives seat instead of Ganduje’s son. Although Abdulaziz wouldn’t have secured similarly opportunity either in APC, it was learnt that Abdulaziz had felt betrayed by Kwankwaso and resulted to rather return to APC.
Abdulaziz’s defection comes few weeks after two Kwankwaso’s loyalists, Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial district, Rufai Sani Hanga and former Senator representing Kano South Senatorial district Kabiru Gaya dumped the opposition NDC.
Bother Hanga and Gaya parted ways with Kwankwaso after being denied the opportunity to secure NDC tickets for elective seats in the consensus congress presided over by Kwankwaso.
The return of the two giants and their large followers to APC will not only strengthen the ruling party, it is believed will further depleted the ranks of Kwankwasiyya Movement ahead of the 2027 elections in Kano, political pundits opined.
