Gates Foundation seeks urgent action on polio vaccination
Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) has called on the 36 governors to commence quick polio vaccination across their council areas, warning that if Nigeria experiences any case of wild polio virus outbreak, it would be a setback to government’s effort to be given a clean bill of health in the next six months.
BMGF Country Director for Nigeria, Dr Paul Basinga, who stated this during a chat with reporters yesterday in Abuja, added: “When you don’t have increased coverage, some related form of polio will come up, as now being experienced in 16 states.”Basinga, however, noted that there had not been any case in the country in the past three years.
