GOC 8 Division conducts maiden operational visit to 1 Brigade in Zamfara

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation Fasan Yamma, Maj. Gen. BP Koughna, has conducted his maiden operational visit to Headquarters 1 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Gusau, Zamfara State.

The visit commenced with an operational assessment tour to Bingi in the Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The GOC, who was led by the Commander 1 Brigade, Brig. Gen. M. Jimoh, to an ambush site, obtained first-hand situational awareness, assessed troop disposition, and evaluated ongoing counter-threat measures.

He also interacted with troops at the location to boost morale and reinforce operational readiness.
Addressing troops at the garrison parade ground, the GOC directed them to maintain heightened vigilance, operational discipline, and rapid response posture to effectively secure lives and property within their Areas of Responsibility.

He emphasised the importance of intelligence-driven operations and timely reactions to emerging threats.
At the Brigade Headquarters, Maj. Gen. Koughna addressed officers, stressing the need for decisive command, firm leadership, and effective control of operations.

He further directed commanders to prioritise troop welfare, particularly in areas of administration, logistics, and personnel management, as these directly impact operational effectiveness.

The GOC received a comprehensive operational briefing from the Commanding Officer, 1 Brigade Intelligence Regiment, Maj. M. Abdulsalam.

The briefing covered the current security situation, threat assessment, ongoing operations, and future operational plans within the Brigade’s Area of Responsibility.

Present at the briefing were Col. IAM Enemakwu, 1 Brigade Chief of Staff; the Garrison Commander, Lt. Col. KR Elero; Lt. Col. I. Ando, Commanding Officer, 382 Artillery; Commanding Officer, 181 Workshop; Operations Officer, Lt. Col. PI Nnadi; and other principal staff officers of the brigade.

Highlights of the visit included an inspection of the ambush site at Bingi, an operational briefing at Headquarters 1 Brigade, interaction with officers and soldiers, and inspection of key operational and administrative facilities.

Other inspections included the newly constructed 1 Brigade Commander’s residence, the COAS Guest House, the Brigade Administrative Complex, as well as ongoing construction projects within the Nigerian Army Cantonment, Gusau.
