Gombe State governor Ibrahim Dankwambo has declared his intent to run for the presidency in 2019 general election.

Dankwambo, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) made the declaration on Saturday via his twitter handle.

“After wide consultations with party members and Nigerians of diverse backgrounds. I, Dr Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo will be running for office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the platform of our great party, the People’s Democratic Party,” Dankwambo said.

The governor said the recent defections to the party is a reflection of a reformed party willing to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in next year’s elections.

“All defectors should be accepted with an open heart and be given an equal opportunity as others who have been in the party”.

Dankwambo said the next president should come from the Northeast, saying all interested candidates from the zone should be allowed to showcase themselves for a winner to emerge.
