Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has enjoined communities in the state to promote peace in the state, to attract democracy dividends.

Ugwuanyi made the call at a civic reception organised in his honour by the people of Edem Community in Nsukka Local Government Area on Sunday.

The governor advised the people on the importance of unity to the rapid growth of any community.

He noted that government, organisation and individuals would only invest in an environment devoid of rancour and acrimony.

Ugwuanyi said that in spite of the slow down of economic activities due to economic meltdown in the country, the state administration would continue to provide social amenities to the people.

On insecurity, he told the people that his administration was liaising with traditional rulers and town union authorities to beef up security.

Ugwuanyi also urged the people to continue to pray for his administration to succeed in spite of current challenges.

Earlier, Enugu State Head of Service, Mr Chidi Ezema, outlined the achievements of the government to include “prompt payment of workers’ salaries; provision of 100 units of houses to public civil servants.

“Massive road infrastructural network and appointment of sons and daughters of the area into the present administration among others.’’

He assured the governor of the unalloyed support of the people for the success of the administration.

The event was attended by Rev. Monsignor Emmanuel Ugwu, who represented the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Godfrey Onah and top government functionaries.
