Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf of Kano State yesterday, enlarged his political appointees with fresh 94 social media influencers to promote activities of his administration.
With the new addition designated as Senior Special Reporters and Special Reporters, the NNPP Governor now has about 290 political aides besides members of the cabinet.
The new appointment came few days after the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal nullified Governor Yusuf’s victory as duly elected governor. The action of the Governor has further demonstrated his resolution to forge ahead with governance, never minding whatever distraction.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature, held that the new social media influencers would henceforth, join the government team of special reporters to foster public access to information.
According to Bature, “In tandem with the commitment of his administration to promote accessibility to information as a prelude to improving good governance in the state, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the appointment of additional Senior Special Reporters (SSRs) and Special Reporters (SRs).”
He said the SSRs and SRs will be posted to various Ministries, Departments and Agencies MDA’s to complement the drive for transparency and accountability through information destinations on government policies and programmes.
Sanusi had earlier posited that government decision to engage the social media reporters was part of political intent to reward party members for their loyalty.
He however maintained that activities of the social media information carriers are simply restricted to social platform where they would keep local audience abreast of government activities.
The aides include Shema’u Maigida Kachako, Senior Special Reporter I, ARTV; Wasila Yunusa Buhari, Senior Special Reporter II, ARTV; Abdullahi Sarki Fulani, Senior Special Reporter, Film Censorhip Board; Shehu Bello Bagwai, Special Reporter, Film Censorhip Board and Mukhtar S. Gwarzo, Senior Special Reporter, Guidance and Counselling.
Others are, Hayat Yanchibi, Special Reporter, Guidance and Counselling; Nura Bulaki Rano, Senior Special Reporter, Housing Corporation; Sadiq Bala Jibril, Special Reporter, Housing Corporation; Ismail Dokadawa, Senior Special Reporter, Hospitality Management Institute; Asiya Muhammad Umar, Special Reporter, Hospitality Management Institute; Pharm. Ibrahim Jinjiri, Senior Special Reporter, HMB and Isah Hassan Abubakar, Special Reporter, HMB.
While congratulating the new appointees, the Governor urged them to discharge their responsibilities in accordance with ethics of media and digital communication.
