Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has pledged that improved security across the state will lead to increased revenue generation, as he embarks on a tour of mining sites and factories in Anka and Maru Local Government Areas. During his visit on Wednesday, Governor Lawal inspected Comet Star Industry, a private mining company in Anka, renowned for its state-of-the-art mining technology that ensures efficient operations.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, explained that the tour was part of an initiative to explore Zamfara’s vast natural resources and to create additional revenue-generating opportunities. Governor Lawal examined various facets of the factory’s operations – from the discharge bay where the soil is received, through the crusher section, conveyor belt and shaking table, to the powerhouse that supplies electricity to the facility, and finally, to the laboratory where the products are processed.
Expressing his satisfaction, Governor Lawal remarked, “I am delighted today because this clearly shows the improvement in security in Zamfara State. I would like to appreciate the troops and all stakeholders who are working tirelessly to bring about peace.”
He further revealed that ongoing discussions between the Federal Government, the state government, the private sector, and local communities are aimed at identifying where Zamfara holds a comparative advantage in solid minerals. “If we can get it right, I assure you that we will improve revenue and rapidly develop Zamfara,” he added.
In Maru Local Government Area, the governor extended his full support to artisanal miners, urging them to operate within legal regulations and promising that the state government would provide essential tools to curtail environmental degradation.
“We are collaborating with the Federal Government and taking specific steps to implement necessary measures. I will direct the Environment Commissioner to meet with you so that everyone can register. By registering, we will be able to maintain a proper record. The state government will provide you with the necessary support, including securing a small-scale mining lease from the Federal Government, but you must form cooperative societies,” Governor Lawal stated.
