Govt, northern govs laud Benue security outfit
The All Progressive Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr Abdulahi Ganduje has hailed the establishment of Benue State Civil Protection Guards (BSCPG) as ‘Da great initiative.’
He spoke at the inauguration of the security outfit by Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi at the weekend. Ganduje, who stressed that “all security is local”, lauded President Bola Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development.
He said that the new ministry would curtail the intractable farmers/herders conflict. He lamented that herders from other neighbouring countries were creating problems along the route, assuring that the scenario would soon be tamed through a symbiotic relationship between the two groups.
Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Inuwa Yahaya, described the initiative as a welcome development, calling on the Benue people to cooperate with his colleagues in succeeding.
Alia’s predecessor, Samuel Ortom, had established the Livestock Guards and the Benue State Volunteer Guards, which the governor has rebranded as Benue State Civil Protection Guards.
