• Senate promises Nigerians better procurement deal
The Federal Government is to enforce mandatory one per cent deduction from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as workers’ contributions to the Employee Compensation of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).
Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, who dropped the hint, while receiving the NSITF management, led by its Managing Director, Mrs. Maureen Allagoa, in Abuja, recognised the organisation as a critical agency of government that should be assisted to discharge its responsibilities to injured Nigerian workers.
Specifically, Akume acknowledged the crucial role NSITF plays in rehabilitating injured workers and other benefits extended to families of employees, who died in service.
The SGF said he had communicated to the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office to attach relevant resolutions to enable him to take action on the one per cent deduction.
Earlier, NSITF boss said implementation of the universal compensation scheme was being held back by non-approval. She added that the agency was digitising its operations for transparency, accountability and better service delivery to customers and staff.
MEANWHILE, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Procurement, Monday Okpebholo, has stated that the era of procurement fraud in MDAs was over with the inauguration of the 10th Senate.
He told Nigerians to expect a better procurement experience that would define the renewed hope agenda promised by the President Bola Tinubu administration.
The representative of Edo Central senatorial district gave the hope, while addressing reporters at the reception of new Minister of Niger Delta, Abubakar Momoh, in Abuja, yesterday. He said his committee would ensure that MDAs align to a paradigm shift, where ordinary Nigerians could bid and win contracts.
