The Concerned Professors and Liberators in Lagos State University (LASU), and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have called on the state government and management of the institution to pick the best candidate for the post of the Vice Chancellor.

The Concerned Professors and Liberators in Lagos State University (LASU), and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), have called on the state government and management of the institution to pick the best candidate for the post of the Vice Chancellor.

At a press briefing at the weekend, in Lagos, they said the process of selecting the next VC must be transparent and molded to emulate the last one done in 2016, that produced former VC, Prof. Olanrenwaju Fagbohun, who recorded unprecedented level of success in the institution.

Chairman of the group, Prof. Adeleke Fakoya, who said the Liberators are for defending the integrity of LASU, stressed that they are concerned about the progress and future.

“We are not in support of any candidate, but we are for the progress of LASU. This is where we work, live and put in years of service. So, we want to see it rise all the time and fly high. Whatever height it has gotten to now, that achievement must increase.

“ What we are looking for is somebody who can take LASU higher. We are number two in Nigeria today, we want to be number one,” he said.

The group called for merit in selection of the VC and urged the state government not to allow ethnicity, local politics or other such factors to influence the selection.
