A Non-Governmental organisation, Soroptimist International of Ikeja, has financially supported five female students from Isheri Grammar School, Lagos, along with their parents.

The beneficiaries, Ukwome Favour, Omoniyi Oluwaferanmi, Akpara Blessing, Oladimeji Oluwapelumi, and Akpan Eno Gift, each received a cash gift of N50,000 to cover their NECO and WAEC examination fees.

FunkeSalako, President of Soroptimist International of Ikeja, speaking during the presentation ceremony, explained that the donation was part of the organisation’s efforts to alleviate the challenges faced by girls globally, particularly in education, and to promote empowerment and human rights on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl Child.

“We did this from the little we have to help these girls achieve greater academic heights. Although we are all retirees, we are not tired of putting smiles on people’s faces, especially women and girls,” she said.

The Principal of Isheri Senior Grammar School, MrsAbigheElo, expressed her gratitude for the kind gesture. She explained that the selection of the beneficiaries was based on their family backgrounds.

“We know some of their parents cannot afford the examination fees. While the selected students are intelligent, they may not necessarily be the most brilliant, but their financial circumstances were a key consideration,” she noted.
