A group, the Yoruba Aborigines Progressive Initiative (YAPI), has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office. Chairman of the group, Olushola Omomulerin John, who gave the endorsement during a media briefing in Ikeja, Lagos, explained that some of the reforms initiated by the president were already yielding results, hence the members’ decision to support him for a second term.

John further said that the group came out to declare its support for the president because those opposed to his staying in power beyond 2027 were already organising on how to dislodge him.

He noted that the group was not driven by political affiliations but rather by a firm commitment to supporting tangible advancements in governance, economic growth, and sectoral development throughout the country.

He said: “In line with this vision, YAPI wholeheartedly endorses His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, recognising the significant progress his administration has made over the past 22 months. YAPI has thoroughly evaluated the policies and initiatives implemented by the current government. One of the most notable actions, the removal of fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023, was initially met with public apprehension.ā€

“However, strategic reforms in the oil sector are now yielding long-term benefits. Additionally, several impactful initiatives, including student loan facilities, the removal of Customs duties on imported pharmaceuticals to increase affordability, and ongoing efforts to address the high cost of food, are making a positive difference for the nation. Moreover, the administration’s success in revitalising the nation’s refineries, which had been non-operational for over three decades, is a remarkable achievement. Furthermore, the Supreme Court ruling on local council autonomy marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s progress.

“With a strong presence in 10 states ā€” Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Ekiti, Kwara, and Kogi ā€” YAPI is proud to formally endorse President Tinubu for a second term. We are confident in his leadership, vision, and ability to propel Nigeria to greater heights.”
