Group laments death of police officer, seeks justice

Otunba Gbenga Daniel

Olatunde Awonuga Foundation (OLAF) has expressed sadness over the unfortunate death of a police officer, Sergeant Leke Ogunsola, who died in an accident while on duty at the Asoludero Sagamu residence of former Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

OLAF, however, regretted the unwarranted controversies mischievously instigated to confuse the public about the circumstances that led to the death of the policeman.

It also condemned the ill-motive of unscrupulous individuals making unfounded claims contrary to the circumstances that led to the death of the police officer.

A statement signed by the Executive Director of the group, Olaide Babalola, stated: “Investigation revealed that the late sergeant was carrying out the legitimate duty of providing security at the residence of the former governor and not assigned as gateman as being erroneously and mischievously misrepresented in a section of the media.”

“The sergeant voluntarily offered to assist a driver in closing an arm of a steel gate, which sadly fell causing serious harm to the policeman. He unfortunately died as a result of the injuries he sustained in spite of the medical care that was promptly activated.”

The foundation, therefore, urged the public to discountenance fabrications and falsehood of desperadoes whose motive are to smear the reputation of Otunba Gbenga Daniel rather than sympathise with the family of the deceased.
