A group, Ezi Elite Forum of Igarra, in Edo State has commended the Senate for confirming Prof. James Momoh as the Chairman, National Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC.

President Muhammadu Buhari had in April 2017, forwarded the name of Momoh to the Senate for confirmation.

But the screening was delayed due to a face-off between the Senate and the presidency.

A statement by the forum’s President and Public Relations Officer, Saturday Jimoh and Ganiu Apologun, lauded the move in Benin City.

According to the forum, the NERC chairman-designate would bring his academic qualifications and wealth of experience to bear on the epileptic state of affairs in the country’s electricity sector.

He said: “We are proud to be associated with Momoh and have no doubt that his appointment would address the electricity challenges in the country.”

The statement said the appointment is also recognition by President Buhari, to give opportunity to technocrats to serve their fatherland.

The forum, in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, said Momoh’s rating by the Senate Committee on Power, was an attestation that it values quality leadership.

It recalled that Senator Eyaniya Abaribe, while presenting the report, said: “Momoh, who was screened by the Senate Committee on Power, has the credentials and the experience,” to perform creditably.

Momoh, is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and the Director of Energy Services and Controls at Howard University in the United States.
