It was a busy day for residents of Makoko area of Lagos State at the weekend as many of them embarked on a fitness walk and sanitation exercise, which started from Apollo Street to Church street.

The programme coordinator, Mr. Olufemi Adabale, who is the lead consultant at Adabale Consulting Limited, frowned at what he described as the lazy attitude of some citizens waiting for government to everything, including cleanup of their communities.

“Records show that Makoko is one of the dirtiest communities in Lagos, but I want to challenge the residents today that Makoko is not a dumping ground. They are neat inside their homes but find it difficult to extend cleanness to their environs and this programme is a way of sensitising them to play a vital role in keeping Makoko clean and stop waiting on the government for everything,” he said.

Princess Akinwunmi, founder of Iyaniwura Women Association and a renowned community leader enjoined women in the neighbourhood to keep Makoko clean by regular clearing of the drainage.
