Group petitions council boss over alleged double taxation
For allegedly collecting arbitrary taxes and levies from Whitesand trailer park owners, a group, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA), has called on Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State to urgently investigate the allegation.
HURMA in a petition addressed to the chairperson of the council, Mrs. Oluwafunmilayo Akande Mohammed, said such double taxation is arbitrary and against the law.
The group said the need to petition the chairperson over the alleged act was informed by a recent attack on members of the association by some hoodlums who claimed to be attached to the LCDA, which the group said was confirmed by the council’s Head of Revenue Department.
HURMA, through its Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, called on the LCDA to return all monies so far exploited from the body, who are carrying out their legitimate businesses.
When contacted on phone, the council boss said the LCDA has not received any such petition, and if there is any complaint, the person or group should come in person to the office.
