The Cross River State chapter of the Niger Delta Youth Network for Peace and Development (NDYNDP) has called on all political parties and people of the state to jettison the current zoning arrangement in the state, saying it is unconstitutional.

National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Okpo Sylvester, said yesterday: “We have watched and analysed with keen interest the political and administrative evolution in Cross River State since 1999 and we have come to a conclusion that the problem bedeviling our growth and development is the error of always zoning the governorship position to a particular senatorial zone.

“Though it is believed that zoning will bring about equity and fairness to the people, but it has sacrificed quality representation and administrative competence.”The body said zoning has destroyed the sense of unity and oneness in Project Cross River and “has brought and encouraged administrative incompetence while destroying belief in integrity, hard work, pedigree and purposeful leadership, which should be our standard for electing people into offices.”
