An international funded agency, Action Against Hunger (AAH), has sought media partnership to stimulate public awareness on the benefit of Social Protection Policy in Kano.

Besides, the non-profitable organisation craved for an aggressive media campaign for urgent implementation of the social policy recently signed into law by Kano State government to achieve the maximum impact.

Speaking at a media interaction in Kano, the Advocacy and Communication Officer of AAH, Mr. Richard Musa, explained that the body is engaging the media as critical component of the Expanding Social Protection for Inclusive Development (ESPID), a new project designed to entrench implementation of the Social Protection Operational Guidelines in Kano.

According to him, the ESPID project is anchored to address challenges of People With Disability (PWDs), women, children and those excluded in the society. He appealed to the media to lead the campaign for implementation to ensure better and efficient life to less privileged in the society.

Musa, who emphasised on the benefit of the new ESPID project, stressed efforts of the agency in ensuring smooth implementations of the project in Kano.

Although, Musa reminded that Kano State government made commitment to devote 10 per cent of 2022 Appropriation budget to the implementation of the social protection programme, he disclosed that critical evaluation and monitoring of the activities is critical to the overall success.

“We are supporting government to facilitate the implementation of the policy. We supported with the design of the operational guidelines of the Social Protection Policy. We are also supporting the government in the areas of capacity building and technical support on the implementation of the project.

“Although, government has committed to improve the SPP project with commitment of 10 per cent of total budget of 2022 to the implementation, we would ensure monitoring and evaluation team in partnership with the media to ensure effective delivering on the project.”
