THE Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to increase the number of women nominees for ministerial positions and other public office.

This call was in response to the ministerial list sent by the President to the Senate last week.

The group through the Founding Director, Dr. Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, stated that following the return to democratic governance in 1999, the number of women in the parliament steadily increased from a paltry three percent and peaked at about nine percent in 2007, ‘’we have seen a steady decline since then. Currently, only 5.5 percent of women made it to the eighth National Assembly.”
