A socio-political organisation, identified Fadahunsi Grassroot Movement and New Nigeria Mandate Group, on Thursday in Ilesa, rejected the moves by some youths advocating for recall of the lawmaker representing Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi.

The two groups, who addressed a joint press conference described the plan to recall Fadahunsi from the Senate as unwarranted and counter productive to the socioeconomic developments of Ife/Ijesa axis.

It is recalled that Coalition of East East Youth Students and Concern Citizens, had on Wednesday, staged a protest in Ilesa, demanding the immediate recall of Fadahunsi from the National Assembly over anti democratic disposition and alleged instigation of violence before the conduct of August 15 governorship poll in Osun State.

However, the Director-General of Fadahunsi Grassroot Movement, Samuel Awowole, declared that the protest by the coalition of students and concern citizens, was politically motivated by some disgruntled individuals, who wanted to halt the steady infrastructural growth and human capacity development of Osun East Senatorial District by Fadahunsi.

He said, “Our federal lawmaker in the Senate, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi had secured employment opportunities for over 400 constituents, procurement of tools for artisans, scholarships for the people among others.

“We witnessed a protest against Senator Fadahunsi, while we recognize the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful assembly and the legitimate expectation that elected representatives should remain accountable to their constituents, we are concerned
about the circumstances surrounding the protest, the messages being conveyed, and the identities of some of those mobilised to participate.”

“Some of the individuals involved are people who have, at various times, shared political interests with Senator Fadahunsi and may have benefited directly or indirectly from his representation and goodwill.”

While passing a vote of confidence on Fadahunsi, Awowole urged members of the public, most especially constituents in Osun East to disregard the protest as a ranting of individuals who were against the progress of the zone.

Also speaking, the President of New Nigerian Mandate, Comrade Oluwole Oyetunde said “We strongly condemn every action capable of threatening the peace, security, and stability of our communities, we are talking about the entire Ife/Ijesa land—a land whose people have coexisted for generations and whose future must not be sacrificed on the altar of political disagreements.”

He advocated for issue-based engagement in the district and not sponsored narratives, character assassination, or attempts to create unnecessary division among the people of Osun East.

Oyetunde also appealed to Governor Ademola Adeleke, Owa-Obokun of Ijesa land, Oba Clement Haastrup and other traditional rulers, religious and political leaders among others to continue to caution individuals, groups and political organisations whose activities may threaten peace and public order ahead of the 2027 general election.
